A collector of vintage engravings, Silliman has assembled and annotated exhibits of these artworks for museums in eight western states. Lee Silliman, a retired educator and former museum archivist, has nurtured an avid interest in the art and history of the American West since his youth. A bibliography of relevant books will be made available. The public is invited at no charge to this event. These stories will evoke an historical era when a cornucopia of nature’s creatures dominated the landscape of western North America. Also, viewers will see a collection of unusual artworks drawn from the presenter’s personal print collection and rare books. Emphasis will be placed upon unusual characteristics and dramatic encounters with people. Through vintage imagery and nineteenth century first person narratives, Silliman will offer samplings of the history and lore of the American bison, grizzly bear, antelope, wolf, wild horses, and other wildlife species which fascinated early westerners.
